Iran finishes first in Muslim Students Intl. Quran Competition

TEHRAN, Nov. 15 (MNA) -- Iran took the first place award at the second edition of Muslim Students International Quran Competition held in Tehran last week.

The countries of Indonesia and Egypt took the second and third place respectively, secretary of the competition Rahim Khaki told the Persian service of IRNA on Friday.

 

Iranian Mohammad-Hassan Movahedi took the first place prize in the recitation section, and Mehdi Hosseini grabbed the first place prize in the memorization of the entire Quran section.

 

The jury also selected Nafi Muhammad Jalal Abdurrahman Adib from Egypt and Jonaidain Edrus from Indonesia as the second and third winners in the recitation section.

 

In the section of the memorization of the entire Quran, the second award went to Ahsan Ashari from Indonesia and the third to Muhammad Amir Towhidi from Afghanistan.

 

The awards were presented to the winners in the closing ceremony held on Thursday at the Conference Hall of Tehran’s Milad Tower.

 

All the winners received a copy of Holy Quran, a plaque of honor and a number of Bahar-e Azadi gold coins equal to 8000$ for the first place winner, 6000$ for the second, and 4000$ for the third.

 

Over 40 participants from 42 countries took part in this year’s competition which showed a much higher interest in participation as compared to the previous edition two years ago, Khaki said.

 

Mayor of Tehran Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, Head of the Iranian Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACECR) Hamidreza Tayyebi, and Tehran City Council Chairman Mehdi Chamran were among the participants at the closing ceremony.

 

Cosponsored by several organizations including ACECR, The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), and the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO), the event was held from November 10 to 13.
